accidental facebook war

So i commented on a friends post and now i am biting my tongue not to respond to some other peoples comments. this is what was said.
MEl:
I feel so bad for the shoppers pharmacist. I walk in at 2 mins to midnight. but going out of town at 8am for the day, and desperately need Rx filled. the ER can take so long. yay for the pharmacist that's staying late to fill it.

Tracy Vust: Please for the love of god never go to the ER for a prescription it is a blatant abuse of our health care system and prevents people who really need help get it! not that i am bias at all

MEL:It was very necessary. Not just to fill a prescription at all. I was trying to solve an infection before my 2 week old decided to stop breastfeeding. They put me in a room right away after I apologized for coming in. Unfortunatley I wouldn't be able to get to a walk-in until monday morning, and that's probably too long.

Tracy: oh i am glad to here that you aren't one of the many people marching through the ER doors for a refill of their birth control pills wondering why i am dropping everything that i am doing to help them out. Sorry i am a little ranty tonight it was a long week full of drunks and idiots

Kristin Desrochers:( i dont know who this is but she commented anyways) Maybe if the walk-in was open longer on Saturdays or on Sundays at all people wouldn't have to go to the ER. People get sick on weekends too. (Although I totally agree no one should be in there to refill birth control. That's ridiculous) And Mel, there was never a doubt in my mind that it wasn't necessary for you to go to the ER as you are neither a drunk, nor an idiot. But now we all know why you had to go!!

So let me just clarify. I thought that the original post was implying that she should go to the emergency to fill a prescription, and i was just putting it out there that a lot of people waste the ER's time with bullshit that can be taken care of at their family doctors. and yes i know that people get sick on the weekends too but the problem is that people flood the ER waiting room day after day all hours of the day and night. Also i think that people have lost not only their common sense when it comes to rushing to the doctors but, they have also lost the meaning of the word emergency all together. For example constipation not an emergency, diarrhea in a young healthy adult not an emergency, tooth ache go to a dentist!
I love asking people when they come in what they tried before they came to the ER. For instance someone with a headache. did you take a Tylenol or Advil? nope? i would say that at least half of the people who come into the ER with minor complaints didn't use their common sense at all prior to arriving. Like we have some miracle cure that we are going to give you, guess what the cure for a regular headache is a Tylenol. I love when someone in their 20's comes in with flu like symptoms, oh so you have been vomiting and feeling unwell for the last 2 days and now you have diarrhea and no fever? Any your girlfriend just got over the flu? I wonder what it could be? Oh and guess what they didn't take an advil or an immodium before coming in surprise surprise! I honestly believe that we are so use to immediate satisfaction that the idea that the treatment for the flu is time is unacceptable to us. Of course there is always exceptions to the rule. I am not saying that you shouldn't bring your 100year old me-maw to the ER when she is evacuating artifacts from the depression out of her butt, or that you should plaster your children with mustard and force them to drink turpentine at the first signs of a cough but please for anyone out there who reads this I only ask that you think twice before claiming a national state of emergency the next time your spouse rolls over in his sleep and farts.

  1. There's nothing worse than going to the ER for an actual problem, only to have to wait for hours while they look at people with sniffles or sore throats.

  2. I agree. If the EMERGENCY room was only used for EMERGENCIES the people with the EMERGENCIES wouldn't have to wait 8 hrs for treatment. Gee, who knew!!

  3. Good rant, by the way. I can only imagine the idiocies you see every day.
